He lost the ball 12x: Arteta must drop 5/10 Arsenal dud who was as bad as Trossard

Arsenal defeated Ukrainian team Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 at the Emirates Sunday night to make it two wins out of three in the Champions League this season.

Mikel Arteta’s team struggled to actually secure the victory in a convincing way and never really seemed like they left second gear.

Gabriel Martinelli’s incredible effort cannoned off the base of the post onto the back of the defenseless Dmytro Riznyk and into the net, giving the team the lone goal.

Despite having 13 shots overall, the Gunners were unable to increase their total and had to settle for a spirited 1-0 victory in North London.

Because they haven’t given up a goal in their first three games, Arteta’s team is still undefeated in Europe this season and appears to be well-positioned to make it to the knockout stages.

However, if more players had taken the chances that were offered to them during the meeting, the outcome might have been more compelling.

Statistics of Leandro Trossard versus Shakhtar

Leandro Trossard, a forward, was given the chance to make an immediate impression last night after failing to make a significant effect in the team’s loss to Bournemouth over the weekend, particularly by giving away the ball for William Saliba’s dismissal.

But it was a night to forget for the Belgian, who looked like a shell of the player who scored 17 goals in all competitions the previous season and put up some dismal numbers during the loss.

The 29-year-old played 87 minutes last night, but in that time, he only managed 38 touches, 21 passes, and seven possession losses in an overall inefficient performance.

Even though he didn’t have much of an impact on the match, he was given an opportunity to score and took the penalty in the closing moments.

Riznyk, however, stopped Trossard’s feeble attempt as he appeared undecided on whether to go down the middle or lay the ball to the goalkeeper’s left.

The Gunners’ number 19 had an overall terrible evening, but he wasn’t the only one who gave Arteta’s team a subpar showing.

Striker Gabriel Jesus was called up to the starting lineup and even designated Arteta’s captain for the Champions League match at the Emirates, despite though he had been named as a substitute the previous weekend.

The Brazilian would, however, play on the right side of Arsenal’s attack, filling in for the injured Bukayo Saka, rather than in his usual center-forward position.

Even though the recall might have given Jesus the confidence boost he sorely needed, he was unable to turn around his recent bad luck and once again failed to make an impression.

The 27-year-old lost possession 12 times and only completed one of his attempted crosses during his 68-minute performance. He frequently appeared wasteful when in possession.

Statistics from Sofascore

Jesus wasted his opportunities in front of goal by shooting his one-on-one opportunity directly at the rival goalie’s legs, but he missed one significant opportunity.

Because of his terrible performance during the European win, Kaya Kaynak of Football London gave the Brazilian a 5/10 match rating.

In an attempt to maintain their winning streak and increase their chances of winning the Premier League this season, Arsenal will play the resurgent Liverpool at the Emirates on Sunday.

Jesus, on the other hand, must not be in the starting lineup because every Gunner is hoping Saka will be healthy enough to play in the crucial match.
