Edu could finally sell £100k-p/w Arsenal flop for big fee if they sign Gyokeres

Arsenal has not added any players during the summer transfer window thus far. That should come as no surprise given the intensity of Copa America and Euro 2024.

You can excuse Mikel Arteta and Edu for being practical in the first few weeks of the summer since they have never spent club cash needlessly.

Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be shocking if everything was finished by mid-July. After all, there was a flurry of new signings during the same month the previous year, including the notable arrivals of Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber in the same week.

Declan, Rice, Arsenal, and England
Although Rice’s move was widely known, there was a little more secrecy around the agreement to bring Timber to Emirates Stadium. It is therefore clear that not everything Arsenal works on will be widely publicized in 2024. On the other hand, you would imagine that the supporters would be more aware of the new striker.

Who would that striker be, then?

The 2024 Arsenal striker shortlist
It appeared in January that this would be the Gunners’ main area of concern come 2024. After a stretch of poor goal-scoring from Arteta’s team, Ivan Toney was constantly connected.

Striker Ivan Toney of Brentford
But the gossip around the Brentford forward has suddenly subsided. The next best bet was Benjamin Sesko, who represented Slovenia against England earlier in the week.

According to reports, the player was optimistic that the people working behind the scenes at Arsenal would be able to get him to North London; nevertheless, he is now expected to stay in Germany and sign a new contract with RB Leipzig.

Where will you go next, then? Now, the most well-known player at the present is Portuguese team Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres.

Vitaly Gyokeres Sports Championship Premier League
The Swede has a lot of experience with English football thanks to his stellar tenure at Coventry, where he netted 22 goals for the Sky Blues in the 2022–2023 season.

So why did English sides not act at that time? After a season in which he rippled the net forty-three times in fifty appearances for the Lisbon team, they will be lamenting their bad luck.

Gyokeres has once again been linked to English shores by the rumour mill, with some claims indicating that the midfielder is unquestionably headed to Arsenal. We’ll let you decide whether or not to believe that.

The repercussions of signing Gyokeres
When a new striker joins your team, it’s difficult not to become thrilled, especially when they score goals at such an absurdly fast pace.

The cynic in us may question if the Swedish attacker is a one-hit wonder, but his subsequent development has been outstanding.

Last season, Kai Havertz, also known as the false nine, finally found his groove as a center-forward. In 18 games, he scored eight goals and provided seven assists. His skill set is broad; he can score goals, assist, run selflessly, and hold the ball up to create opportunities for others.

Havertz, Saka, Arsenal, Kai
In short, he has been an ideal counterbalance to players like as Leandro Trossard, Martin Odegaard, and Bukayo Saka, who were Arsenal’s main creators and goal scorers in the previous season.

Having saying that, Gyokeres is not a one-trick pony. While Havertz’s chances of maintaining his position as the offensive focal point would be severely hampered by his arrival, the Sporting phenomenon is also a talented player, having contributed 12 assists in Portugal in 2023–2024.

Havertz would undoubtedly still be optimistic about getting adequate playing time, but Eddie Nketiah, who fell more and further in the 2024 rankings, cannot say the same.

Nketiah-Elneny
The former Chelsea player was even given an opportunity up front as a result of his horrific run of goals against opponents.

Although Nketiah did score a hat-trick against Sheffield United, who were relegated, back in October, he hasn’t scored in any domestic games since. Although he did score in a Champions League match against PSV in December, he hasn’t performed well since.

Gabriel Jesus swiftly lost out to the team’s third-choice striker once his injury healed. It is therefore not surprising to see him associated with the departure door.

TalkSPORT reported earlier this week that the Londoners had placed an enormous £50 million price tag on him in response to West Ham, Southampton, and Crystal Palace’s interest.

It is unclear if anybody will pay that amount, but if a player of Gyokeres’ caliber does sign on, there is little likelihood that Arsenal’s number 14 will play in any games the following season.

He must depart for the sake of his profession and the team’s sake, making his way out the door. With just six goals in 37 games during the previous season, the £100k-per-week earner’s goal-scoring record is insufficient for a club contending for major awards.
