According to the Sun, Arsenal would seek to bargain for Sporting Lisbon attacker Viktor Gyokeres for a sum of money close to £60 million during the current summer transfer window.

The Portuguese premier league team, however, is holding out for the 26-year-old’s £85 million release clause because they won’t allow him to go for nothing.App Store Icon Google Play Icon In 50 games across all competitions, Gyokeres scored 43 goals and contributed 15 assists, making him the Primeira Liga’s leading scorer with 29 strikes. Gyokeres was playing his best ball in 2023–2024.

The Sweden international is ideal for Arsenal’s intentions, as manager Mikel Arteta looks to improve his assault in preparation for a potential title challenge.

Benjamin Sesko, a striker for RB Leipzig, was at the top of the Gunners’ transfer want list, and they were prepared to use his £55 million release clause.

But this week, the Slovenian agreed to a contract extension with the Bundesliga team, thus Arsenal had to find another player. Gyokeres has the skills to make the North Londoners even more formidable in the attacking third, and they have scouted him multiple times over the past 12 months.

Sporting’s £85 million demand, though, might prove to be a roadblock, and Arsenal doesn’t seem eager to part with the cash for the former Coventry City striker.

The Portuguese team wants to raise money this summer, but they would prefer to do it by selling other players, such defenders Ousmane Diomande and Goncalo Inacio, who are linked to Arsenal. The Ivory Coast international is estimated to be worth £50 million, while Inacio has a £52 million release clause. However, the Gunners are more interested in signing an attacker, so they’ll be hoping Sporting would be more accommodating in their demands for Gyokeres.
